Hey Elizabeth. I was the one who made you cry because I have to take brain cells from baby mice for my experiments. I’m very sorry about that! But there are lots of good reasons why we need to use animals for research. This is a great website that might help you with your homework! http://www.understandinganimalresearch.org.uk/why/

      hi alzbeta,

Unfortunately I do have to do some work on mice. We use mouse eggs as they are very similar to human eggs (as mice and humans are both mammals) and it is not ethical to use human eggs for our research.

Everyone who works with animals has to go through a very detailed training course so the animals suffer as little as possible. Also we always make sure we use the minimum number of animals possible for our research.

Good luck with your homework and please ask if you have any more questions about this topic!

I know it seems very cruel to use animals in experiments, but they are such an important part of medical science. Most of the medicines you have taken in your life will have been tested on animals, but this is done to make sure they are as safe as possible for humans to use.

In the UK the use of animals for research is very tightly controlled by specific laws to make sure that everything that is done is ethical and humane.
