When I was about 10 what I really wanted to be was a pilot, and fly planes around the world. But once I started doing biology in high school I really loved it and was determined to be a scientist after that.

      Hi!

I wanted to be a scientist from when I was about 10. But I wasn’t sure what kind of scientist!
First i wanted to investigate blood samples and fingerprints at crime scenes to find out who was guilty. This is called forensics. Then I decided that would be too gory!! I just kept on studying subjects I was interested in and eventually I found I was really interested in reproduction. That’s how I ended up studying egg cells!

When I was young I wasn’t sure what I wanted to be. Even when I got to school I didn’t know what kind of job I wanted to do, I probably didn’t even know what scientists really done, that’s why you guys are lucky you get to speak to all the scientists on here and find out about their jobs. I just liked science at school and I knew I wanted to go to university so that’s what I picked to study and then I enjoyed it so much I carried on. I don’t know if I’ll be a scientist forever though, you learn lots of things from doing science that are useful in other jobs too so one day I might want to try something different.

When I was really little I wanted to be a saint! I had an idea that I would go to poor countries in Africa and feed people baked beans. My Mum would then pick me up every evening. As I grew up I realised that wasn’t possible and so I wanted to be many different jobs, but most were sciencey. I did nearly join the Army because I was fed up with school, but my teachers all persuaded me that I should go to uni. I chose science and the rest is history.
