      Hi Liam,

My most interesting discovery was finding a new type of white blood cell! This cell is quite cool because it can control other white blood cells during an infection, and make sure they do what they are told.

Probably my most interesting discovery (with other people as well) was a little switch like thing on nerve cells that if you can interfere with it then it will help the nerve cell fix itself. This is one of the things I’m still working on, and we hope that it’ll help make new medicines one day.

My most exciting discovery is that the egg cells have a different type of ‘skeleton’ which organises the cytoplasm (the jelly-like substance inside the cell) than all other normal body cells. This is quite exciting as we think that this could be why one of the reasons why a woman’s eggs often get a bit dodgy when she gets older.

I discovered that we can replicate the way the brain gets damaged on cells in a dish. Sometimes older people get slightly less oxgyen to their brain because their blood vessels are a bit blocked. This causes one type of brain cell to die but not another. I was able to show the same results by removing the oxygen and food from the cells in the dish.
