One of my favourite things is finding out about all the cool experiments other scientists are doing because it gives you ideas of things you could try to do. I also really enjoy telling the public and children about all the cool neuroscience things we are finding out. Like that patients who were once thought to be “brain dead” can now have their brain scanned in a special machine and are actually able to say yes or no to questions by thinking about doing different activities. There was a programme about it on BBC last night and you can watch it on the iPlayer here http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01ny377/Panorama_The_Mind_Reader_Unlocking_My_Voice/

Talking about my experiments with other scientists. Not only do they get excited too, but, they have interesting ideas about what the results from the experiments mean, and what to do in the future. Science is best as a team sport.

      Hi molly,

There are lots of great things about being a scientist. I like the fact that you can be the first person in the world to discover something.

Another great thing is that you get to go to scientific conferences to discuss your work with other scientists who work on your topic. These are usually in quite exciting places – I am going to a conference in San Francisco in a couple of weeks which I am looking forward to!
