There are about 800000 people in this country who have some form of dementia (memory and brain problems) and of these 62% have Alzheimers disease, so 496000 people have this disease. It mainly affects the elderly, and if your 65 you have a 1 in 14 chance of getting it and by the time you are 80 you have a 1 in 6 chance. Once getting it, people normally die within 8 years, but often forget all their friends and family before that. Sometimes they forget who they are, where they are, even what a fork is for. It is a horrible disease, possibly one of the worst and I hope we beat it soon.
Just realised that may be the least cheerful answer I’ve written so far. Sorry about that. So I’ll be more positive. We will beat it! I hope we beat it soon.
