The problem with nerves is that they aren’t very good at regrowing. The ones in your arms and legs can, but the ones in your brain and spine hardly grow at all. A nerve cell is basically a small round cell with long arms that act like wires. If these wires get snapped, the nerve is broken and it doesn’t regrow them. We have found a little protein on these nerve cells that acts like a hook and stops the nerve from mending its long wire-like arms. We are trying to find a way to block this hook which we think will allow the nerve cells to regrow.
