I think the theory that you are after is called Einstein’s theory of relativity. And this is actually two theories. One is called the general theory and one is called the special theory. I’m not a physicist so I only have a vague idea of what they mean but I think that the theories talk about the relationship between time and space. They also bring up the idea that speed of light is the fastest that anything can go, and that it is linked to time. So if you travel at light speed, then time will stop for you. This would mean that you might travel to the nearest star and back and not age, but all your friends would be 8 years older.
The theory of relativity is one of the most important scientific theories ever, and without it things like sat navs wouldn’t work. Really interesting is that recently at CERN, which is a massive particle accelerator, they may have made something go faster than light, which if it really did, it would go against the theory of relativity, and could change the way we think about everything in the universe.

      Hope that helped

Sorry but I can’t help at all! Even though I’m a scientist now I never actually studied physics at school, I always just done Biology and Chemistry. Like Sam said Physics theories are very important but I always thought they were a bit dull compared to all the cool things you can learn about in biology.

Tough question, I’m really sorry but I don’t think I can explain this as I don’t understand it very well myself. If you manage to find a good explanation (perhaps a physicist would be best), make sure you post it here!

very very simplified – einsteins theory of relativity says that the faster someone moves then the slower time passes for them.
